Lesson 14: Drawing Flags (Direction, Action, and Rhythm)

lesson image

In this lesson, children practice drawing American flags. Note how single strokes are used to represent the stripes of the flag.

The instructor demonstrates drawing flag A using the side of a very short piece of crayon. Point out how lines show direction - vertical (post, stars) and horizontal (stars, stripes). Note that stars are represented by crosses. Direct children to copy the example over the week until they master it.

Repeat the prior set of steps for flag B.
